Hey guys. I’m getting married at the end of June in Glacier National Park and am trying to find a bluegrass band to play some dancin’ tunes at the reception for a couple/few hours. Here’s a smokin’ version of Free Wheelin’ by the Virginia Squires in the early ’80′s. Band members included Rickie Simpkins on Mando. Later Rickie was to record fiddle with us on Blue Angel’s 1st and only CD “Dance a Little Closer”
We had a blast recording with, hangin’ out with and performing with Rickie and his brother Ronnie Simpkins at the 1st and 2nd Wing’s and Strings festival’s in Florida. What a nice guy and amazing musician.

If you working on your computer and get an urge to listen to some bluegrass, try the Montana Radio Cafe at http://www.kxzi.com/. The playlist includes a mix of bluegrass, folk and jazz with an ample helping of bluegrass. The web-streaming radio station is based in Creston, MT (between Kalispell and Big Fork). In September, the radio station was featured in an article in the New York Times. There is a link to the article on the web site. This is definitely worth checking out.

Hey everyone, if ya’ll need to shake the winter cold, come down and dance! Wise River Mercantile will be playing the Missoula Folklore Society Dance on Saturday Dec 19th at the Union Hall in Missoula (208 E. Main, second floor, above the the Union Club). We have all recently returned from Dare to be Square (a national conference for dance callers and bands) and are ready to have a big time at the dance! There will be square dancing and some contra dances. The dance starts at 7:30 with a little “how to” session then the dance will begin in erenst at 8pm. Hope to see you all there!

Pictures from the Annual Meeting, pizza party and jam are up on the website and here’s a little video of the fun jam.
Our President, Dallas, led a great meeting. We had a lot of input from attendees and had several new members step up to volunteer to serve the association. Brian Herbal is leaving his position on the Board. Ted Lowe has moved back East to help his folks and so had to step down too. Thank you Brian and Ted for your time and help with MRBA these past few years. Greg Boyd and Ken Benson were voted into these 2 Board positions. The rest of the Officers stayed the same.

The January newsletter will have a full report n the annual meeting but a couple of important highlights of note are 1) we will sponsor Mike and Tari’s Hardtimes Festival 2) the association will sponsor shows. We’ll start with a series of concerts this winter 2 in Missoula and 1 in Stevensville. If you have a bluegrass band and would like to be considered for our concert series please email mrba@mtbluegrass.com.

Jack is now back home at Seeley Lake. He is doing really well. His speach has improved and is now able to walk with the aid of a cane. He has really enjoyed all the support that all of you have provided. He is working hard on his recvery and hopes to be playing and singing soon. Thanks again for all the support,
